About Us
Pattern Tackle was technically born from digging in my father’s old green metal tackle box when I was a little boy only 4 years old. I was simply obsessed with looking at his tackle. As you can see in the photo, there really wasn’t much to pick from and to me it was a treasure box. I truly felt that this box held all of the secrets to tricking fish and I couldn’t wait to try the next lure. I would spend what seems like hours picking up various lures, looking them over and envisioning throwing them in search of the next biting fish. I can still remember the smell. It was a mix of plastic, bug spray and stale fish. To me, it represented the smell of fishing. At the time, most of these lures were too heavy for my short and very basic fishing pole. I remember tying on a spinnerbait and barely being able to lift it with my rod. It wasn’t long and my equipment was upgraded so that I could adequately fish with a larger variety of lures.
I became my Dad’s best fishing partner and learned a lot from him. To this day, we often fish together and he will always remain my favorite fishing partner. We didn’t have much money so our trips often consisted of a trip to the local stream or a pond where we could get permission. My Grandparents (his parents) had a farm pond and we spend many hours circling that body of water. Several years later, my Dad purchased our first fishing boat which was a 16 foot aluminum bass boat with 60 hp engine. There wasn’t anything better than cruising across the calm early morning waters of Mark Twain Lake in NE Missouri, about 2.5 hours from where I grew up. We regularly filled the livewells with crappie and caught what seemed like endless largemouth bass. Once I was old enough, probably around 13, he let me load the boat on the trailer. As he was walking up the ramp to retrieve the truck from the parking lot, I would “sneak” back out and make a short run in the boat by myself or with my brother once he was old enough to tag along. I always thought I was getting away with this run only to find out many years later that my Dad often watched me with a big smile on his face ;-).
Fast forward a few years and I continued to grow my passion of fishing and fishing tackle. I am fortunate to fish with some of the best equipment in the industry and have earned prostaff positions with multiple companies. I have also earned the prestigious position of Factory Demo Team Driver with Skeeter Boats which allows me to run the most premium of bass boats. I enjoy tournament fishing and any time spent on the water.
As you can see, my passion started at an early age and continues to grow. Pattern Tackle is a fairly new company that I started on my own. I have big plans for the company and to give back to anglers. There will be many opportunities created to support the passion of anglers/kids in the Midwest and beyond. I continue to grow inventory and am very appreciative for everyone who does business with me. Stay tuned and I very much appreciate your support. And, always feel free to reach out so I can help you catch more fish.
